I am a professional violinist and violin teacher with over 9 years’ teaching experience. Alongside private lessons, I have taught in schools, coached youth ensembles and performed with ensembles from London to Lithuania.

I first picked up a violin aged 10 and have loved it ever since, something my students tell me is an infectious trait. By 17, I knew I wanted to pursue music professionally and applied to study at Sheffield.

At university, I studied with Nina Martin and took part in masterclasses with Trevor Pinnock as well as the Wihan Quartet and Sorrel Quartet. During that time, I led all the University’s orchestras and also formed and directed my own ensemble, performing regularly in concert series and festivals. I also took on students of my own for the first time, something I really enjoyed, and began to develop my skills as a teacher alongside my development as a performer.

For my postgraduate Diploma, I moved to London to study with Ofer Falk at the Trinity College of Music. At Trinity, I led the college’s symphony orchestra in several well received performances and jointly formed a string quartet which performed throughout London. In 2005, my quartet won the Barbirolli prize for our interpretation of a Beethoven String Quartet.

After completing my studies, I continued to teach privately and worked in other education settings, coaching youth orchestras and teaching in schools. At the same time, I performed across the country, giving recitals and playing with chamber ensembles.

In 2009, I took a position with the Klaipeda Chamber Orchestra and moved to Lithuania for three years. Working with an international orchestra and playing in chamber music festivals in Lithuania, gave me wonderful experience performing with great musicians from across Europe and Russia. It also gave me a flavour of the Russian school of string playing and teaching, something I am able to draw on with my own students.

After three years abroad, I felt drawn back to the UK and have now settled* back in Sheffield. Alongside my teaching practice, I enjoy performing across the north of England with my quartet and my teaching continues to be informed by an active performing career.
